'The Black 5'-43106 Steam Locomotive
This model has been in the works for quite a while, this is something important to my family, in particular my Grandfather who recently passed away. He had worked with this locomotive when he was younger. By using a combination of my own photos and as much as I can find online, I plan to recreate 'the black 5' in MAYA. I wanted for a while to make a steam engine model, and I thought this was a good idea.
As the project has progressed one of the biggest issues is finding good images of the tender and the connection between it and the engine, this is why I chose to focus on it first, by using what I could initially find along with images of other trains I managed to piece together what it more or less looked like. Inaccuracies are inevitable regardless of the images I can find.
There are large time gaps between updates due to different things but the latest being caused by a short job working for free (making 3D assets) and burnout.
End of day 1.
End of day 2- not as much got done due to injury.
End of day 3- working on tender.
End of day 4, fixed a lot of things and added many components. Tender nearing completion.
End of day 5, tender now has internals modelled and several other changes to body shape
End of day 5, components on the trains front modelled. After changing how the front face looked.
End of day 6, starts of firebox, not finished due to changing other major componants.
End of day 6, major changes to the entire tender. completely restructured and re-shaped. Shouldn't need any more major work.
End of day 7, minor structural changes, added a connection point between the tender and engine (TBC) and added the water hose. I noticed some structural differences between the tender modelled and the real one, but I'm not changing them.
End of day 8, changed my mind about not fixing the tender. It wasn't so bad.
End of day 8, small changes made to tender here and new components.
End of day 9, I'm calling this day 9 in my log but it actually was a lot of work over several days, it was difficult deciding how much detail to have. This still isn't done either.
End of day 10, windows added to complete the firebox and complete restructure of the front of the engine.
End of day 11, the model is now done, with the primary addition of course being the rods, cranks and pistons that power the locomotives' movement.
